Discovered at the beginning of the 19th century, the Cornadore caves occupy an underground volume dug by human hands in the 340 million-year-old granite from St Nectaire. Two hot springs (22 ° C annual average) and mineralized provide water rich in carbon dioxide, calcium, magnesium, sodium and iron. The deposited calcium carbonate forms concretions, stalactites and stalagmites. The measured age of 2,000 years on one of the stalactites, the organization of the different rooms and the presence of hot springs allow us to admit that the caves are the vestiges of the Gallo-Roman baths and thermal baths of St Nectaire …
